Lee Ann Kline is an Associate Director on the Americas Talent Team at EY (Ernst & Young LLC) and President and Founder of STEM Advantage, a non-profit organization to mentor, prepare and inspire young women and underserved communities to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). She has held business and technology roles at IBM, Scient, MetLife and EY, and seen firsthand the lack of diversity, especially women and underserved communities. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics, an MBA from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania, and a PMP certification.
STEM Advantage addresses both a skills shortage and economic gap by focusing on women and under-represented talent. Women, African Americans and Latinos comprise only 20% of the current STEM workforce, yet make-up 70% of the total available workforce. STEM Advantage Scholars is a 360-degree program that provides paid internships, mentorships, scholarships, career panels, employability skills and workshops, access to and networking opportunities with business, technology and talent leaders. STEM Advantage strives to open doors and level the playing field for students attending the California State University, the largest and most ethnically diverse public university system in the nation. The CSU grants over 50% of all undergraduate degrees earned by California’s Latino, African American and Native American students. Through a “Pay it forward” model, STEM Advantage Scholars become role models and STEM champions to excite young people, especially girls and minorities, that STEM is cool.
STEM Advantage partners with more than 30 companies, including Avery Dennison, BCG Digital Ventures, CBS, Deluxe, Farmers Insurance Group, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Aerospace Corporation, and Toyota. The Los Angeles Business Journal honored STEM Advantage as Nonprofit Team of the Year in 2016.
